CPP/QPP considerations

If any part of vacation time taken does not fall into the current pay period, you must consider how you will request the CPP/QPP exemption for that period of time.

It is often necessary to apply more than the normal CPP/QPP exemption when vacation pay is paid out prior to the time taken.

For example, an employee on a biweekly payroll may be paid regular wages for two weeks and vacation pay for two weeks. The CPP/QPP exemption must be requested for four weeks.

  1. Select the employee from the Employee List.
  2. Open the Employee Timesheet - Second Payment page.Closed From the Payroll menu, select Second Payment > Employee Timesheet - Second Payment.
  3. From the Applicable Period of Time list, select the appropriate time for the payroll entries you are making.

The applicable period of time triggers the calculation of the CPP/QPP exemption for that portion of the yearly exemption.

  4. Make a note of the CPP/QPP exemption for the employee. You must apply the exemption the correct number of times in the year.

Note: Paying out vacation pay always reduces the vacation accumulator.
